Easter “Go Green” Idea
Itsy Bitsy Hearts is not just a company that wants to give more money to support adoption. We are a company that wants to improve the world that these kids will grow up in. We sell organic for a reason. We want to help the Earth as well.
Think about how much garbage your family creates each week. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that in the United States, each person generates 4.5 pounds of solid waste each day! When you think of how much garbage all the world’s families and businesses create, it’s easy to see that there is just too much waste for our landfills to handle.
So, Itsy Bitsy Hearts has decided to blog about environmentally friendly ways we can EASILY help the environment.
Idea #1
Easter is a holiday that celebrates rebirth and spring. It is the perfect occasion to “go green.” This Easter, instead of buying plastic toys to put on top of plastic baskets filled with plastic grass, make a commitment to embrace recycling and create eco-friendly baskets for your kiddos. Children of all ages will be excited to receive something that is not only earth friendly, but also more interesting.
Search your local thrift stores for baskets or let kids make a basket out of the bottom of a milk carton. Or, use something you already have at home…such as a bucket or sand pail.
Make beautiful Easter grass by tearing up pretty scraps of paper or using colorful magazine pages. This is easiest with a paper shredder, but it’s also fun to do with a good pair of scissors. If paper needs to be a certain color, it can be painted or died before shredding. Scraps of material can be used for different textures. Leftover yarn is another green basket covering.
Instead of buying a bunch of individually plastic wrapped candies, think about baking a favorite treat and wrapping it up in a napkin tied with a bow.
And, none of us need any more trinkety toys that will just end up in the donate pile.
How about an art themed Easter basket full of new art supplies and fun stickers and papers? Think of items that your children will be needing for warmer weather anyway, like new sandals or flip flops, sunglasses and water bottles. A great idea would be to fill your kids basket with a new swimsuit, pool toy and goggles.
Skip the plastic eggs and fill your child’s basket with eco-friendly goodies this year.
You can help the Easter Bunny leave a smaller footprint and still thrill your children!
Happy Easter from everyone at Itsy Bitsy Hearts!
